Miscellaneous Terms

Unknown

Unknown may be used in country and subcontractor fields (never in Primary Supplier).

Country Fields: Unknown may be used in Country of Final Assembly and End User Country Fields when the end user has not been identified. If possible, Unknown can be further defined by the specific region when that information is known or derived. The range of entries include: Unknown, Unknown Europe, Unknown Asia, Unknown Mid East, Unknown Far East, Unknown Americas, Unknown Africa, Unknown non-US.

Subcontractor Fields: Unknown is used only when the analyst cannot confirm the subcontractor performing the work and cannot confirm that the Item indeed contains the listed subsystem. As a result, when used as a subcontractor, Unknown is always accompanied by a subsystem percentage of zero.

GFE GFE, an abbreviation for Government Furnished Equipment, is used in subcontractor fields only. GFE denotes that it is confirmed that the Item does contain the listed subsystem, but the subsystem is provided directly from the customer and is not part of the system contract/order and, therefore, the item’s unit price. As a result GFE is always accompanied by a subsystem percentage of zero. Whenever GFE is used, our analysts document the subsystem supplier in the subsystem comment field.
Unidentified Unidentified denotes, that although many elements of the Item’s determined information are known and documented, the contractor, subcontractors, and/or life cycle position details have not yet been identified and confirmed. Unidentified is used in the subcontractor fields whenever it is believed that the system supplier is not capable or not likely to retain the subsystem work, but it is quite certain that the element indeed exists or is needed. In all cases, entries of Unidentified imply that our analysts continue to research the missing information.
NA or Not Applicable NA An abbreviation for Not Applicable, is entered in segment fields when the conditions of the field do not apply to the Item. For example, Platform fields that do not relate to a Services record.
Various Various denotes multiple known or unidentified contractors, subcontractors, end-user countries, platform families, etc.. When Various is entered as a supplier, end-user country or platform family, it is presumed that our analysts will continue searching for more information and break out the record into multiple records whenever appropriate. Various is ALSO an acceptable long-term entry for the mission system fields in platform databases when there are multiple systems included (e.g., Radar, EO/IR, Mil Comm, C2, etc.) within this column/field and, therefore there is more than 1 supplier. The supplier would be found for the mission systems, within the specific applicable markets.
Unspecified Unspecified is used in some attribute segment fields only. Unspecified denotes that elements (other than contractor and subcontractor) of an Item are not yet determined by the customer (e.g. program is in early stages of development).
All Others All Others is a contextually relative category used on the Markets Forecast charting interface to group together all but the 10 largest segments on a chart. Using All Others improves readability of charts by limiting the number of chart layers and entries in the legend.
Generic Supplier Used in the Supplier fields where the company/entity involved does not typically do business with Aerospace & Defense or is a small enterprise and has not reached critical mass within the market.
