Defence Budgets Spreadsheet

The Janes Defence Budgets summary spreadsheet provides almost two decades of historic defence budget data and 10 years of forecast data with figures extending from 2005 - 2035. The Janes Defence Budgets dashboard spreadsheet provides an interactive spreadsheet that breaks information down into World, Region, Country and Groups and highlights several key analytical metrics for each. It also enables selection of alternative currencies and de-activation of inflation adjustment.

How to access the JDB spreadsheets

Both spreadsheets can be accessed from the JDB landing page through the Reports box, by selecting the summary spreadsheet link. This page provides an overview and explanations of the tabs in the summary spreadsheet, as well as the JDB research team’s contact details. By scrolling to the bottom (or selecting the attachments link) the links to the JDB summary spreadsheet and JDB dashboard spreadsheet can be found.

The summary spreadsheet includes data for 107 countries included in Janes Defence Budgets. The following views are available:

• The "Summary" tab holds all Janes Defence Budgets data in filterable form.
• The "Regions by Function" tab examines the defence, procurement and RDT&E budgets of specific regions.
• The "Region by Country" tab breaks out regional spending into specific countries.
• The "Defence Budget as % GDP" tab calculates defence budgets as a percentage of country GDP.
• The "Time Series" tab reshapes the data into one column, for use in regression or data analysis software.

The JDB summary spreadsheet can be downloaded in order to export or interact with the data.
